How to Use the Date Difference Calculator

  1. Pick the Start Date and End Date with the date pickers.
  2. Toggle Include end date if you want to count the end day itself (+1).
  3. Read the large card for calendar years, months and days and the stats for totals and weekday counts.
  4. Use Swap to reverse dates or Today to Tomorrow to jump to a quick preset.
  5. Click Copy Result or Download Report to save a text summary of the gap.

Why Calendar Math Matters

Bookings, payroll, project timelines and age all need more than total days. A range from 31 January to 28 February is 28 days but not 1 month, because February has fewer days than January's borrowing. Calendar borrowing handles that correctly.

Total days vs calendar months

Total days is a flat 24-hour count at UTC midnight and avoids daylight-saving shifts. Calendar months borrow the exact preceding month length, so 15 January to 10 March is 1 month 24 days, not a fixed 30-day month. For leave or rent pro-rata see the Percentage Calculator.

Weekdays and weekends

Weekdays Monday to Friday are counted by stepping UTC dates and checking getUTCDay(). That matches payroll where weekends are excluded. Inclusive mode adds the end day to both weekday and total counts, useful for hotel nights.

Leap years

The Gregorian rule every 4 years, except centuries not divisible by 400, sets February to 29 days. The month table applies that automatically, so gaps spanning Feb 29 are correct without manual correction.

Honest limitations

Dates are midnight UTC, not times, so hour-level precision assumes 00:00. Time-zone and daylight-saving are avoided via UTC. Historical reform before 1582 and far-future dates beyond browser Date range are approximate.

Privacy and Client-Side Security

Privacy Guarantee: All calculations occur locally inside your browser. Your dates are never transmitted, stored, or recorded on remote servers.

Many online counters send dates to a server for subtraction, which is unnecessary. TinyToolzz keeps everything in-page: parsing and UTC math run with plain JavaScript.

Because nothing is uploaded, there is no waiting, no account, and no copy retained anywhere. Your values exist only in the tab and are discarded when you close the page or click Clear.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you calculate days between two dates?
The calculator subtracts the start date from the end date at UTC midnight and counts the gap in 24-hour periods. For calendar years-months-days it borrows days from the previous month and months from the previous year, matching human counting. Example from 2024-01-01 to 2024-03-10 is 2 months 9 days, total 69 days.
Are start and end dates inclusive?
By default the count is exclusive of the start date and inclusive of the end difference - so same date is 0 days. Turn on Include end date to add one day, useful for booking nights and leave counting.
How are weekdays counted?
Weekdays are Monday to Friday counted by iterating UTC days between the dates. Weekends are Saturday and Sunday. Totals adjust automatically when you toggle include end date.
How does it handle leap years?
Leap years are handled via the Gregorian month-length table. February has 29 days when the year is divisible by 4 except centuries not divisible by 400. Year and month borrowing uses the actual preceding month length.
Is my date data sent to a server?
No. All calculations run locally in your browser with JavaScript Date operations. Your dates are never transmitted, stored or logged anywhere. Closing the tab or clicking Clear removes them immediately.
Can I swap dates or calculate past differences?
Yes, use Swap to reverse start and end. If end is before start the absolute difference is still shown with a note that dates are reversed, so you can measure past and future gaps both ways.
