  4. Click Copy Text to copy, Open Link if it is a URL, or Download .txt to save a text file.
  5. Click Clear to reset and scan another code.

Understanding QR Code Scanning

QR codes store text or URLs as a grid of black and white modules. Scanning reads pixel brightness from a canvas, detects the three finder patterns, and decodes the data with error correction. Doing this locally avoids sending potentially sensitive links to a server.

Image vs camera input

Uploaded images give the highest accuracy because the full resolution is available. Camera scanning checks video frames continuously, which is faster for physical codes but may need good lighting and steady holding. If camera scanning fails, try uploading a photo of the QR instead.

When decoding fails

Blurry, tiny, or low-contrast QR codes often fail. Ensure the QR fills most of the frame, is well lit, and not cropped. Very large images are downscaled to 800px for performance with no accuracy loss.

Honest limitations

This reader decodes standard QR codes with text and URLs. It does not decode barcodes like Code 128 or EAN, and it cannot fix heavily damaged QR codes beyond the built-in error correction. For creating QR codes, use the QR Code Generator.

Privacy and Client-Side Security

Privacy Guarantee: All scanning occurs locally inside your browser. Your QR images and decoded text are never transmitted, stored, or recorded on remote servers.

Many online QR scanners upload your image to a server for decoding, which can leak private URLs. TinyToolzz keeps everything in-page: canvas drawing and pixel parsing run with plain JavaScript in your tab.

Because nothing is uploaded, there is no waiting, no account, and no copy retained anywhere. Your image exists only in the tab's memory and is discarded when you close the page or click Clear.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the QR Code Reader decode images?
It draws the image or camera frame to a hidden canvas, reads pixel data, and runs a QR parser (BarcodeDetector when available, jsQR fallback) entirely in RAM. No image is uploaded to a server.
Can I scan a QR code with my camera?
Yes. Click Start Camera, allow permission, and point the QR code at the video. The scanner checks frames continuously and shows the decoded text as soon as a valid QR is found.
What image formats are supported?
JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, BMP and any browser-readable image up to 20 MB. Clear, high-contrast QR images decode best. Blurry or very small QR codes may fail.
Is my QR image uploaded to a server?
No. All decoding runs 100% locally inside your web browser. The image is drawn to a canvas and parsed in memory. No image or decoded text leaves your device.
What happens if the QR code contains a URL?
The decoded text is shown with an Open Link button that appears only when the text looks like a URL (http, https). You can review the link before opening it.
Is this QR Code Reader free to use?
Yes, TinyToolzz QR Code Reader is 100% free to use with no registrations, limits, or downloads required.
