Robots.txt Generator

Write a clean robots.txt in seconds: add allow and disallow rows per crawler, set crawl-delay, list sitemaps. The file builds live as you type.

Paths must start with / and may use * and $ wildcards. Empty rows are ignored.

Honored by Bing and Yandex. Google ignores it.

Technical Specifications

Exactly how the file is assembled and which rules apply.

Element Rule
Grouping Rows sharing a user-agent merge into one group, kept in first-use order
Path matching Prefixes match from the left; * matches any run, $ anchors the end; longest match wins
Path format Must start with / (or be a lone *); anything else is skipped with a warning
Crawl-delay Positive whole seconds, repeated under every crawler group in the file
Sitemap lines Absolute http(s) URLs only; relative lines are skipped, multiples allowed
File facts Save as robots.txt at the domain root; keep it under 500 KiB for Google
Processing location 100% client-side JavaScript in your browser memory; nothing is uploaded

How to Use the Robots.txt Generator

  1. Click Add Rule for each path: pick the crawler, Allow or Disallow, and the path.
  2. Set an optional crawl-delay and list sitemap URLs, one per line.
  3. Watch the robots.txt preview and the rule counters update live.
  4. Click Copy File or Download robots.txt.
  5. Upload the file to the domain root (example.com/robots.txt) and test it in Search Console.

Blocking Crawls Without Breaking Indexing

Robots.txt controls crawling, not indexing. Blocking /admin/ or /cart/ saves crawl budget and keeps junk out of the crawl queue, which is exactly what the file is for. But a blocked page that other sites link to can still surface in results as a bare URL, since Google honors the block by never reading the page — including any removal signal on it.

Allow, Disallow and the longest match

Each rule is a path prefix: Disallow: /shop/ closes the whole section, while a paired Allow: /shop/sale/ reopens one corner. Where rules overlap, Google and Bing enforce the longest matching path, so order inside a group does not matter. Test the logic against your sitemap plan with the Sitemap XML Builder, and mark preferred page addresses with the Canonical Tag Generator.

Honest limitations

Robots.txt is advisory: well-behaved crawlers obey it, bad bots ignore it, and it offers zero access control — never rely on it to hide private content. Crawl-delay is ignored by Google, and files over 500 KiB may be cut short. Always verify the live file in Search Console after uploading.

Privacy and Client-Side Security

Privacy Guarantee: All file building occurs locally inside your browser. Your paths, agents and sitemap URLs are never transmitted, stored, or recorded on remote servers.

Many online generators send your drafts to a server for processing. TinyToolzz takes a different approach: every step runs in the page itself with plain JavaScript string operations.

Because nothing is uploaded, there is no waiting, no account, and no copy of your sitemap structure retained anywhere. Your rules exist only in the tab memory and are discarded when you close the page or click Clear.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a robots.txt file and where does it live?
Robots.txt is a plain-text file at the root of a domain, such as example.com/robots.txt, that tells crawlers which paths they may fetch. Crawlers read it before anything else on the site, so keep it short, valid and under the 500 KiB size cap.
What is the difference between Allow and Disallow?
Disallow blocks crawling of every URL starting with the given path prefix, while Allow carves exceptions back out, for example blocking /shop/ but allowing /shop/sale/. When rules overlap, Google and Bing apply the longest matching path.
Does robots.txt remove pages from Google results?
No. A disallowed page can still appear in results as a URL-only listing when other pages link to it, because Google never crawled the noindex signal. To remove a page from the index, serve it with a noindex robots meta tag instead of blocking it.
What does Crawl-delay do?
Crawl-delay sets the minimum seconds a crawler waits between requests to the site, which protects small servers from overload. Bing and Yandex honor it; Google ignores it and expects crawl-rate tuning inside Search Console instead.
How do Sitemap lines work in robots.txt?
Each Sitemap line carries one absolute sitemap URL and may appear anywhere as a top-level line, so crawlers discover sitemaps without Search Console. Multiple sitemap lines are allowed; relative paths and non-URL text are ignored by crawlers.
Is my site data uploaded to a server?
No. All file building happens locally in your browser with JavaScript. Your paths, agents and sitemap URLs are never transmitted, stored or logged anywhere. Closing the tab or clicking Clear removes everything immediately.
