How to Use the GST Calculator

  1. Choose Add GST if you have the net price, or Remove GST if you have the gross price.
  2. Enter the Amount. Commas are ignored so 10,000 works.
  3. Select a GST Rate chip (5, 12, 18, 28) or type a custom rate like 3 or 18.5.
  4. Read the large result card: gross or net, plus the CGST/SGST split and bar.
  5. Click Copy Result to copy the summary, or Download Report to save a text file.

Understanding GST Add and Remove

GST is a value-added tax applied at each stage of supply. Adding GST multiplies the net price by the rate, while removing GST reverse-engineers the tax from an inclusive price. Both use the same rate but different divisors, so confusing them understates or overstates tax.

Adding GST to net

GST = net x rate / 100 and gross = net + GST. At 18%, a 1,000 net item gives 180 GST and 1,180 gross, split as 90 CGST + 90 SGST for intra-state. This is used for quotations and adding tax at checkout. For percent checks see the Percentage Calculator and for EMIs the EMI Calculator.

Removing GST from gross

Net = gross / (1 + rate/100). GST = gross - net. A 1,180 gross at 18% reverses to 1,000 net and 180 GST, not 212.40 which would be 18% of gross. This matters for extracting tax from MRP or reconciling invoices.

CGST/SGST and IGST

Intra-state supplies split GST equally into CGST and SGST. Inter-state uses IGST at the full rate. The calculator shows the half split; for IGST just read the total GST. All standard slabs 5, 12, 18, 28 are supported plus any custom rate 0-100%.

Honest limitations

The tool rounds to 2 decimals for currency. Very large amounts near 1e9 may show rounding of 0.01. It assumes a single rate; composite rates or cess are not modeled. Use the result as a quick estimate and confirm with your tax filing system.

Privacy and Client-Side Security

Privacy Guarantee: All calculations occur locally inside your browser. Your amounts are never transmitted, stored, or recorded on remote servers.

Many tax calculators send invoice amounts to a server, which is unnecessary for a multiplication. TinyToolzz keeps everything in-page: rate math and rounding run with plain JavaScript number operations.

Because nothing is uploaded, there is no waiting, no account, and no copy of your figures retained anywhere. Your values exist only in the tab's memory and are discarded when you close the page or click Clear.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is GST added to a net amount?
GST added = net x rate / 100. Gross = net + GST. For example 1000 at 18% gives GST 180 and gross 1180.
How is GST removed from a gross amount?
Net = gross / (1 + rate/100). GST = gross - net. For example 1180 at 18% gives net 1000 and GST 180.
What GST rates are supported?
Standard Indian GST slabs 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% are one-click buttons plus a custom field for any rate 0 to 100%. The split into CGST and SGST is half each.
What is CGST and SGST split?
For intra-state supply, GST is split equally into CGST and SGST. For example 18% GST is 9% CGST + 9% SGST. The calculator shows both halves.
Is my amount sent to a server?
No. All math runs locally in your browser with JavaScript. Your amounts are never transmitted, stored or logged anywhere. Closing the tab or clicking Clear removes them from memory immediately.
Does it handle decimals and rounding?
Yes. Amounts accept decimals and commas. Results are rounded to 2 decimals for currency. For example 999 at 18% gives 1178.82 gross.
