Understanding Loan Cost vs EMI

EMI shows the monthly burden, but total cost shows what you really pay. Two loans with the same EMI can differ by hundreds of thousands in total interest if tenure differs. The Loan Calculator surfaces both to compare offers quickly.

Financed amount and down payment

Banks finance price minus down payment. A 800,000 asset with 100,000 down finances 700,000. EMI is calculated on 700,000, but total cost adds the down payment back: total cost = down + EMI x n. For percent splits see the Percentage Calculator and for monthly quotes the EMI Calculator.

Total interest and payoff

Total payment = EMI x n. Total interest = total - financed. At 9% for 15 years, 700,000 gives EMI about 7,090, total interest about 576,000 and payoff about 15 years from today. The bar shows principal vs interest share.

Tenure trade-offs

Shorter tenure raises EMI but cuts total interest sharply. Lengthening from 15 to 20 years on the same financed amount can add roughly 200,000 in interest while dropping EMI by about 1,200. Check the schedule to see how early EMIs are mostly interest.

Honest limitations

This is a standard reducing-balance EMI. It excludes processing fees, insurance, prepayment charges or variable rates. Actual bank schedules may vary by disbursement date and day-count. Use as an estimate and confirm with your lender.

Privacy and Client-Side Security

Privacy Guarantee: All calculations occur locally inside your browser. Your loan figures are never transmitted, stored, or recorded on remote servers.

Many loan sites send price, down payment and rate to a server for math that a browser can do. TinyToolzz keeps everything in-page: financed math and amortization run with plain JavaScript numbers.

Because nothing is uploaded, there is no waiting, no account, and no copy of your figures retained anywhere. Your values exist only in the tab's memory and are discarded when you close the page or click Clear.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is loan EMI and total interest calculated?
Financed principal = price - down payment. EMI = P x r x (1+r)^n / ((1+r)^n - 1) where r is monthly rate and n months. Total payment = EMI x n, total interest = total - P. For example 800000 with 100000 down at 9% for 15 years => P=700000, EMI ~7090, total interest ~576000.
What is the difference from EMI Calculator?
EMI Calculator focuses on monthly installment for a principal. Loan Calculator adds price vs down payment, financed amount and total cost (down payment + total payment) for home and auto loans.
Does it support down payment?
Yes. Enter price and down payment. Financed amount is price minus down payment. If down payment is 0, the full price is financed. Down payment cannot exceed price.
How is tenure entered?
Tenure can be entered in years or months. Years are multiplied by 12. For example 15 years = 180 months. The payoff date is from today plus months.
Is my loan data sent to a server?
No. All math runs locally in your browser with JavaScript. Your amounts are never transmitted, stored or logged anywhere. Closing the tab or clicking Clear removes them from memory immediately.
Does it handle zero interest?
Yes. At 0% EMI = financed / months and total interest is 0. The schedule shows principal only.
